Jackie Gene “Jack” Crowell, 89, of Otterville, passed away Monday, March 21, 2022 at his home. He peacefully fell asleep and walked into his reunion in Heaven just like he said he always wanted to.
He was born October 25, 1932, in Cobden, IL, a son of the late George and Lucille (Doughty) Crowell. On December 31, 1957, in Sedalia, he married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Roark, who preceded him in death on July 24, 2021.
Jack served 26 years in the United State Air Force. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was an airplane mechanic stationed in England and South Dakota, sharpshooter and supervisor of the Minuteman missile sites in North Dakota and Missouri. He was a Master Sergeant when he retired in 1978. He then worked at Kelsey-Hayes in Sedalia, retiring for the second time in 1990.
After retirement, Barbara and Jack purchased an RV and traveled the United States. They were married 63 years, and together 65 years. She was the love of his life; and he was hers. Their adventure continues as they are now reunited in Heaven. We’re sure they are planning their trips to explore every inch of it together.
Jack was a member of Otterville Baptist Church. He was proud to be a member of the Sedalia Rod and Gun Club since 1973. Jack enjoyed playing pool with his friends at the Otterville Senior Center nearly every weekday for 30 years. He spent countless hours through the years maintaining his homes, yards, and flower gardens, plucking every weed into a five-gallon bucket.
He was a great storyteller making sure every tiny detail was included and exaggerated as much as possible. He was a loving father and was always there for his children. They were all so thankful for all he did to take care of them. Everyone who knew him said he was “one of a kind” for sure.
Survivors include a daughter, Angie Stuart (Johnnie, Jr.); grandson, Johnnie Stuart, III; two great-granddaughters, Natalie and Nyla Stuart; a brother, Gerald Crowell (Jeanette); a sister-in-law, Suzi Larmeir; a brother-in-law, Mike Heineman (Renee); nieces and nephews, Edrica McDowell (Nathan), Christy Robinson (Chris), William Raines (Tammy), Dustin Larmeir (Amanda); and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Randy Crowell; a daughter, Mary McDaniel Ivey; and two brothers-in-law, Leroy Roark and Frank Larmeir.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Heckart Funeral Home with Rev. Russ Slocum officiating.
Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the United States Air Force.
