Arnelia “Nicky” Hilda Amos, 97, of Sedalia, formerly of Russellville, died Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.
She was born March 6, 1923, in Cole County, a daughter of the late Enos and Emma (Zink) Gordon. On June 27, 1942, she married Kenneth R. Amos, who preceded her in death on February 11, 1989.
She was raised and educated in Cole County, graduating from Russellville High School in 1941. She belonged to the Church of Christ in Scrivner. Nicky was knowledgeable about vintage furniture and glass. She was an avid gardener and took great pride in growing beautiful flowers, fruits and vegetables. She was an accomplished cook and quilter. She enjoyed spending time with her family and visiting her sister in Florida. She loved animals.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Viola Gordon, Sedalia; nine nieces and nephews, Barbara Wallace, McPherson, KS, Ron Gordon (Linda), Brazito, Janet Gentry (David) Pima, AZ, Craig Gordon (Charlotte) Wentzville, Dr. Sarah Crabtree (James) Jefferson City, Timothy Gordon (Jeanne) and Donna Plummer, all of Sedalia, Paula Eveland (Jeff) Bonner Springs, KS, and Todd Gordon (Donna) Camden Point; and several great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by eight siblings, Ruth Benson, Arthur Gordon, Earman Gordon, Alyce Yeast, Delmar Gordon, Wilbur “Rip” Gordon, Donald Gordon and Vernon “Jack” Gordon; nephews, Gordon Benson, Mike Gordon and Patrick Gordon; and nieces, Linda Mauer and Cheryl Cooper.
Graveside service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Brazito.
