Arvella Mae Elliott, 99, of Sedalia, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at Lincoln Community Nursing Home.
She was born September 25, 1919, in Ionia, daughter of Ned Charles and Ruby Mae (Howery) Barrow.
On May 26, 1942, in Venice, CA, she married Max LeRoy Elliott, who preceded her in death on May 6, 2003.
Arvella was a graduate of Cole Camp High School. She worked at Windsor International Shoe Company and Interstate Studio for many years, but primarily helped her husband run the farm. For a time, she and Max owned and operated the grocery store in Ionia. She was also a top distributor for Shaklee.
She was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, served as a deacon’s wife and as church clerk. She was also involved in the church quilting group and served in any capacity needed at the church.
Arvella was a talented quilter. People from all over the U.S. sent work to her for her hand quilting. She also enjoyed crocheting.
She will be remembered as a loving and caring person, especially for her family. She loved sharing the love of Jesus with others and as a result, she was a light in the world.
Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Joyce Elliott, of Ionia; two grandchildren, David Elliott (Sherry), of Ionia, and Cathy Chewning (Darryl), of Ionia; four great-grandchildren, Austin, Dakota, Dallas and Caitlyn Chewning; a nephew, Robert Thompson (Wendy), of Bedford, TX; and two great-nephews, Austin and Andrew (Caitlin) Thompson, also of Bedford, TX.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles Elliott; and a sister, Lorraine Thompson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dan Hankins officiating.
Burial will be in Antioch Baptist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
