Barry L. Sauers, 67, of Sedalia, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2014, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
He was born December 3, 1946, in Shelbyville, IL, son of Ernest LaRue and Dorothy Van Meter Sauers.
Most of Barry’s young life was centered around helping his dad with the cattle business and at horse shows. He worked as a farmhand for many years. He also drove for Sedalia Fruit. He attended trade school in St. Joseph and then worked as a custodian at the Federal Building in Kansas City. Later he worked at the car auction in Sedalia. He enjoyed classical music, attending the Missouri State Fair and going to coffee shops. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and Moose Lodge 1494.
Surviving are two sisters, Daryl Dority, of Jefferson City, and Susan Kohl, of Kokomo, IN; three nephews, Eric England (Lisa), Matthew Dority (Vikki) and Justin Kohl; two nieces, Lyssa Surface (Bryan) and Kourtney Kohl; five great-nieces; two great-nephews; and one great-great-niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Juanita Zimmerman.
Memorial services will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 21, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Jeff Page officiating.
Honorary bearers will be his many friends.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time Sunday at Heckart Funeral Home.
Inurnment will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Mechanicsburg Cemetery in Mechanicsburg, IL.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
