Bernadette ‘Bernie’ Louise Wiltjer, 91, of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 26, 2015, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.
She was born May 5, 1924, in Lewisport, KY, daughter of Milton and Alice Shoemaker and sister to 9 siblings.
She leaves behind her husband, Albert J. Wiltjer of Sedalia; four children, Lindi (Wiltjer) Gessin and husband Marc, of Yorktown NY, Susanna (Wiltjer) Joy and husband John of Sedalia, Chris (Wiltjer) Kennard and husband Mark of Beverly, Ma. and Geoff Wiltjer and wife Sharon of Thornton, Co. She leaves twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren (soon to be 13!); and three siblings, Roberta Forster, Henrietta Riordan and Raymond Shoemaker.
She was preceded in death by five siblings, Ethelrita, Joe, Agnes, Mary, Bill and John “Dutch.”
A long-time resident of Chappaqua New York, Bernie and her husband retired to a home on the 9
th
green of a golf course in Hampstead, NC. for many years prior to moving to Sedalia. Bernie was an avid golfer and bowler bringing home many awards. Admired for her baking and homemaking skills she made family coveted Holiday rum log cookies and a much loved Dilly bread.
Bernie was a gentle, fun woman with a wonderful sense of humor and true love of life. She adored her family (especially her grandchildren!) and she brought great joy to all those around her. She will be dearly missed.
