Betty Jean Bale, 91, of Sedalia, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.

She was born August 22, 1932, in Sedalia, daughter of Antone Andy and Mattie Ann (Wheeler) Schick.

Betty enjoyed woodworking and was known around Sedalia for her yard art, which featured a little boy peeing in the presence of a surprised little girl. She also created the eagle that hangs in the window of the American Legion. At one time she enjoyed working in her yard, tending her flowers, and crocheting. In later years, she enjoyed coloring and shared her pictures with family and friends. She was a member of Parkview Christian Church.

Surviving are five daughters, Barbara White (Vaughn), of Eugene, OR, Debbie Wiley (Dave), of Sweet Springs, Betty Delinger (Tom), Joyce McNeal, and Peggy Hawkins (Michael), all of Sedalia; a son, Ronald Bale, of Sedalia; a son-in-law, Norman “Butch” Seifner, of Sedalia; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Seifner; two sons, Gary Bale and William “Willie” Bale; a son-in-law, Charles McNeal; and siblings, Raymond Schick, Ruby Irwin, Alfred William Schick, Andy Schick Jr., Opal Kiper and Dorothy Schick.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rodney Brown officiating.

Casket bearers will be grandsons: Gene Seifner, James Hogg, Kendale Hawkins, Chris Hawkins, Brandon Bale, Tony McNeal, Charles McNeal and Ebbin Cook.

Honorary bearers will be granddaughters: Rhonda Seifner, Christal Espinosa, Brooke Bale, Becky Bale, Rachel Bale, Niki Bale, Christina Adams, Theresa Bush and Barbree Turner.

Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
