Betty Jean Green

Betty Jean Green, 89, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at Bothwell Regional Health Center.

She was born May 16, 1935, in Sedalia, a daughter of the late Leo Thomas and Mildred Alice (Stevens) Leiter. On February 10, 1957, in Sedalia, she married Charles Henry Green who preceded her in death on August 12, 2008.

Betty attended Striped College grade school and was Salutatorian of the Smith-Cotton Class of 1955. She attended Nurse’s Training program at General Hospital in Kansas City, MO, receiving her RN certificate. 

Her primary profession was homemaker and raising her three children. In her younger years she worked for Dr. Lamy and Dr. Hopkins, filling in when needed. 

She was a member of Faith Fellowship and former member of Goodwill Chapel. Betty loved the Lord and lived her faith. She was devoted and close to her church family.

Betty will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. 

Survivors include three children, Julie McNew (Otis), of Sedalia, John Green (Marsha), of Nixa, and Alan Green (Brenda), of Sedalia; four siblings, Barbara Kubelka, Tom Leiter, Virginia Breshears (John) and Charles Leiter (Mona); ten grandchildren, Seth McNew, Laura Hargrave, Sarah Estes, Anna Schwartz, Leah Gumbel, Madison Yoes, Ashley Porter, Ryan Green, Abbie Elliot and Kaden Green; and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Joann and Robert Rages; brother-in-law, Lee Kubelka; and sister-in-law, Jackie Leiter.

Visitation will be 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Sunday, August 11, 2024 at Heckart Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 10:00 am Monday, August 12, 2024 at Heckart Funeral Home with Pastor Clint Leiter and Pastor Charles Leiter officiating.

Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Faith Fellowship Missionary Fund for Evan Jennings and the Sems Family in care of the funeral home.
