Betty Jo Christal, 91, of Sherwood, Arkansas, formerly of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2019, at her daughter’s home in Sherwood following a long illness.
Betty was born August 15, 1927, in Red Bay Alabama, and was the daughter of Fred and Ruby (Williamson) Regan. She was a proud member of the Red Bay High School Graduating Class of 1945 and enjoyed corresponding with her classmates throughout her life.
On October 25, 1946, at Red Bay, Alabama, Betty married Aubrey Wayne Christal, who passed away February 2, 2002. Betty and Wayne had a loving and caring marriage for all 55 years.
During her working years, Betty put her Alabama business college education to use serving as an administrative assistant for the Lamy and Hopkins Family Medical Practice. In this role she was the receptionist and also filed insurance claims for patients.
After retiring, Betty dedicated her time to helping others. She was active with the Bothwell Regional Health Center Auxiliary where she assisted in the gift shop. She coordinated the blood drive volunteers for the American Red Cross and received an award of recognition from the Red Cross for her numerous blood drive hours. Additionally, Betty volunteered at the Open Door Thrift Shop in order to aid Open Door Ministries. Once when asked about her numerous volunteer activities, Betty stated, “I just like to contribute a little. Wayne joked that I didn’t quit working, I just quit drawing pay.” She kept a calendar to track her many activities and daily wrote a diary reflecting on each day’s events.
Betty was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church where she also volunteered in the office and worked in the church library. She loved her Sunday school class and was a regular- attending church member until health issues kept her at home.
Passionate about her faith and family, Betty enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren on many adventures and looking for “gifties” to give them when they would visit. Betty loved a bargain and shopping for things she could give to family and friends. She is remembered for her thoughtfulness and keen sense of humor.
Surviving are a son, Steward (Chuck) Christal and his wife, Rebecca, of Lebanon, Missouri; a daughter, Cecilia Glymp, of Sherwood, Arkansas; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Judy Tomlin, of San Diego, California; and a long-time special family friend and neighbor, Nadine Fingland of Sedalia.
In addition to her husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Regan Christal; and a sister, Pat Humphrey.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, May 20, 2019 with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. at Heckart Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Red Cross.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
