Betty Mae Ostendorf passed away Thursday, November 8, 2018 at E.W. Thompson Health and Rehabilitation Center in Sedalia, MO.

She was born December 23, 1928, in Oxford Junction, IA, daughter of Theodore Pierce and Florence Irene (Kelly) Buchanan.  On November 26, 1947, she married John Ostendorf, who preceded her in death on December 25, 1976. Betty lived in Alexander, IA until she moved to Sedalia in 2011.

Betty was a school cook at Alexander Consolidated School in Alexander, IA and CAL Community School in Latimer, IA.  She retired after 30 years. She was an active member of Alexander Reformed Church in Alexander, IA. When she moved to Sedalia, she attended Mt Herman Baptist Church.  She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking, and was an avid reader. Her primary enjoyment came from daily reading of the Bible, her faith and her love of God.

Surviving are three children, Jolynn J. Ostendorf and Kathryn I. Seher, both of Sedalia, John M. Ostendorf of Bell Buckle, TN; six grandchildren; and a sister, Rande Shaffer, of MN.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Captain Susan Scott; two sisters, Ruth Coker and Jackie Johnson; and three brothers, Teddy Buchanan, Lyle Buchanan, and Phillip Buchanan.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 18, at Mt. Herman Baptist Church.

Burial will be at a later date in the Alexander Cemetery in Alexander, IA.
