Beverly Jean “B.J.” Rose, 89, of Sedalia, died Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at EW Thompson Health and Rehab.

He was born March 21, 1929, in Sedalia, son of John A. and Irma L. (Love) Rose.

Mr. Rose served in field artillery in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a Lieutenant during combat and was then promoted to Captain.

He graduated from the University of Missouri with a B.S. in Wildlife Resources. He then earned his Master’s in Fish and Wildlife Management from Montana State University. He was a wildlife biologist for the Montana Fish and Game Department and South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks. Later he worked for the National Wildlife Federation and Ducks Unlimited, from where he retired. He led bird watching tours around the world for about ten years and enjoyed bird photography. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his retirement he worked as a door greeter at Walmart.

Surviving are two sons, Alan Rose, of Columbia, South Carolina, and Roger Rose, of Sedalia; an adopted daughter, Tammy Rose, of Council Bluffs, Iowa; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a half-sister, Gayle Rooks, of Sedalia.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Douglas Rose.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, at Heckart Funeral Home.

Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
