Bonnie L. Schumaker

Bonnie Louise Schumaker, 92, of Sedalia, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.

She was born January 22, 1931, in Pettis County, one of three children of Ambrose and Kitty (Bennett) Pirtle.

On October 2, 1948, in Sedalia, she was united in marriage to James Alfred “Salty” Schumaker, who preceded her in death on July 27, 2012. This union was blessed with three children.

Bonnie worked in the library at Smith-Cotton High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She enjoyed golfing, watching soap operas, and doing word searches, and was a fan of Elvis and the Chiefs. Bonnie will be remembered as a fun-loving, caring person who always had a smile and a twinkle in her eye.

Surviving are two children, Scott Schumaker and Jamie Schumaker; three grandchildren, Eric Emo (Emily), Megan Schumaker and Ryan Schumaker; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James A. Schumaker, II; a grandson, James Scott Emo; and siblings, Helen Evans and Bob Pirtle.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 10, 2023, at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Honorary bearers will be Stan Moore, David Pirtle, Gary Pirtle, Craig Pirtle, Rick Pirtle, James Pirtle and Ray Murray.

Memorials are suggested to Shriner’s Hospital for Children in St. Louis, in care of Heckart Funeral Home.
