Brandyn T. Poynter

February 15, 1988 — February 14, 2025

Sedalia

Brandyn Tyler Poynter, 36, of Sedalia, passed away Friday, February 14, 2025, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.

He was born February 15, 1988, in Columbia, son of Clay Ulmont Poynter, III, and Heather Renee Wise.

A graduate of EW Thompson State School, Brandyn embraced life with warmth, humor, and a spirit that brightened the lives of those around him.

Brandyn found joy in life’s simple pleasures—being outdoors, feeling the wind as he swung, taking peaceful walks, and swimming. He loved the roar of race cars, the classic sounds of rock music, and the excitement of cheering on his favorite team, the Chiefs. His happiest moments were spent at the beach, traveling, attending family sporting events, and enjoying the company of loved ones. He especially treasured phone calls, story time with his nieces and cousins, and the companionship of his caregivers and friends at the Roark Group Home, who could always bring a smile to his face.

Brandyn was full of life—mischievous, funny, and always smiling. He was a great listener, a joyful presence, and a source of laughter to those who knew him best. His deep love for his family was evident in the way he was always by his mother’s side. Before moving to the group home, he lived with his loving parents, sharing countless adventures with his mom, whom he adored beyond words. No matter the day, his dad could always bring a smile to his face.

He loved the magic of Christmas lights, their twinkling glow filling him with wonder and joy. Known affectionately by his many nicknames—Bran-Man, Scooter, Turkey Butt, Brandy, Smiley Boy, and Bubby—Brandyn carried a sweetness and resilience that defined him. Despite facing health challenges, he met them with strength and an unbreakable spirit.

Brandyn’s memory will forever be cherished by his family and friends. Though he is no longer with us, his love, laughter, and light will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Surviving are his two sisters, Brittney Richards (Bobby, Jr.), of Utah, and Bailey Poynter (Travis Perry), of Sedalia; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; and grandparents, Patricia and Mike Mitchell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents, Jamie Wise, Clay Jr. and Margarethe Poynter, Shirley Poynter, and Jim Johnson.

A celebration of Brandyn’s life will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on June 7, 2025 at the Girl Scout Camp at 22720 Sacajawea Rd., Sedalia, MO. 65301.

Memorial contributions are suggested to EW Thompson State School.
