Carl Chester Clopton, 85, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Rest Haven Convalescent and Retirement Home.
He was born January 22, 1939, in Cedar Falls, IA, son of Edwin S. “Bill” Clopton and Dorothy (Manders) Clopton.
On December 15, 1961, in Cedar Falls, he was united in marriage to Alice I. (Johnson), who survives of the home.
Mr. Clopton served three years in the United States Army and twenty-three years in the National Guard, retiring as Sergeant First Class, E-7.
He was a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He taught junior high and high school industrial arts and auto mechanics for twenty years, retiring from Lynwood USD in Lynwood, CA.
Carl was a member of Broadway Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed bowling, woodworking, playing cards, and working crosswords and jigsaw puzzles. He will be remembered as a compassionate and loving man and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, Alice, of the home, survivors include two sons, Trent Clopton (Luisa), of San Antonio, TX, and Kurt Clopton (Sarah Kortenkamp), of Marshfield, WI; two daughters, Kelly Hammond, of Spring Hill, KS, and Teri Garr (Kelly), of Centerville, IA; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a sister, Betty Goldstein, of Kansas City.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Bracy H. Hammond; a brother, Edwin R. Clopton; and brother-in-law, Larry Goldstein.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2024, at Heckart Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2024, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, with Rev. Rob Hughes officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army.
Honorary bearers will be his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-granddaughter.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Broadway Presbyterian Church, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
