Charles Edward Bybee, 81, of Smithton, Missouri, passed away Saturday morning, February 18, 2023, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
He was born June 13, 1941, in Mexico, Missouri, son of Clarence Elmer Bybee Jr. and Viola (Long) Harms.
On August 15, 1964, in Brookfield, Missouri, he married Dorothy Jeanne Shelby, who preceded him in death on December 9, 2017.
Charles graduated from Smithton High School in 1959 and went on to trade school to become an auto mechanic. He worked for O’Conner Chevrolet, Baughman Feeds, and retired from Pepsi Cola after 18 years.
He was a member of Smithton United Methodist Church. He had served as president of the Smithton School board, on the Smithton Fair Board, as Smithton City Judge, and was a Boy Scout leader.
Racing was his passion, whether it was watching or working on the sprint cars. He was a hard worker and enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by three children, Terrinda Miller (Darren) of Smithton, Eddie Bybee (Dawn) of Smithton, Christie Baker (Brad) of Smithton; seven grandchildren, Bryan, Shelbi, Lyla, Chase, Tami, Jonathan and Morgan; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sister, Linda Knox, and uncle, Raymond Bybee.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Rev. Jason Veale officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Smithton Cemetery.
The urn bearer will be Chase Bybee.
