Charles Gregory Slagle

Charles Gregory “Greg” Slagle, 37, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at his home.

Greg was born June 7, 1983, in Ketchikan, AK, the son of Charles Frank Slagle and Debra Lorraine Swaim Thompson.

On December 28, 2018, in Boonville, he was married to Jacqueline Danielle (Cook) Wade.

Greg was a 2001 graduate of Ketchikan High School. He pursued a flying career, earned his pilot’s certificate, and flew seaplanes in Ketchikan following his family’s legacy. Later he was the marketing supervisor for Baranof, his father’s sport fishing business in Alaska.

Games were Greg’s passion, second only to his children, They were his outlet and the method he used to bond with others. Card games, video games, computer games, board games, football games, you name it. If he could win, he was up for the challenge. Greg was a lover of Papa John’s pizza, the Kansas City Chiefs, music, and his evening audio-books. Many have witnessed and will remember the happiness he found in spontaneously getting a new tattoo. Lastly, there was his position at Baranof. Not only did he take pride in working for the family company, it brought him a true sense of fulfillment that those who knew him came to desire in their own careers.

Greg will be remembered fondly by anyone who had the privilege to enter his life. His charming demeanor, quick wit, and the care he gave so freely will be sorely missed by those he left behind. Those closest to him have been forever changed by his fierce loyalty to friends and family, the pride he felt as a father and a husband, the optimism to see the best in every situation, the charisma to make a fast friend out of a stranger, the profound intelligence of one beyond his years, and the sense of humor that could find the lighter side of life that would be a benefit to us all right now.

His children and step children will remember Greg’s love and patience as he passed down the games, jokes, and the stories that brought him joy. Many moments were created by their family, brought together by those activities and the bedtime stories he would share with the kids every night before bed.

He is survived by his wife, Danielle; three children, Sarah, Charlie, and Jacob Slagle; two step-children, Maddex and Wrynlee Wade; his father, Charles Slagle and step-mother, Bobette Rowe-Slagle, of Ketchikan, AK; his mother, Debra Thompson and step-father, Danny Thompson, of Ketchikan, AK; his maternal grandmother, Marilyn Wright, of Chehalis, WA; two brothers, Jack (Kayleigh) Slagle, of Ketchikan, AK, and Michael (Ashley) Thompson of Loveland, CO; two sisters, Shannon (Austin) Slagle of Ketchikan, and Kimberly Thompson, of Lake Stevens, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Jack Swaim; and paternal grandparents, Alfred and Ethel Slagle.

A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 19, 2020, at Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia. A service in Ketchikan will be held at a later date.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
