Charles H. Salmons

Charles H. “Charlie” Salmons, 80, of Sedalia, passed away Monday, November 14, 2016, at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.

He was born February 19, 1936, in Sedalia, the son of Kirtley W. and Goldie Stout Salmons.

He was united in marriage to Juanita M. Metscher, on November 23, 1958, in Sedalia.

Mr. Salmons served honorably in the United States Army. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Sam, as he was known to many, was the director of building and grounds for the Sedalia School District for 38 years before retiring. While employed by the school district he never used a day of sick leave and retired with over a year of sick leave accumulated. Charlie could have also retired with full disability, but his conscience would not allow him to. Instead he chose to live the dream of opening his own antique store, Sam’s Place Antiques which allowed him to go to auctions and collect antiques, two things that he loved to do.

Charlie will be remembered as honest, a jokester, and always having a good story to share. His favorite greeting to everyone was “Hi Trouble.”

He is survived by his wife, Juanita; two children, Sheri Atkinson and Chuck Salmons, both of Sedalia, three grandchildren, Charles Atkinson (Ashley), Lauren Germann (Ryan), and Jake Salmons; a brother, Kirtley Salmons, Jr., of Stover; and a sister, Georgia Hart, of Lee’s Summit.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four siblings, Evelyn Jurgensen, Jessie Wright, Mable Cross and JoAnn Avey.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 18, 2016 at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeremy Freeman officiating.

Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2016, at Heckart Funeral Home.
