Charles R. Marshall, II, 82, of Sedalia, MO, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Bothwell Regional Health Center, surrounded by his family.
Born October 23, 1942, in Ashland, KY, he was one of three sons of Franklin B. and Virginia (Newsome) Marshall.
On November 25, 1965, in Laconia, IN, he was united in marriage to Carolyn May Brown. This union was blessed with two children, Stephani and Chuck.
Mr. Marshall was a 1960 graduate of Fairview High School in Ashland. He then attended Eastern Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky, from where he earned a Juris Doctorate.
His career began as a tax attorney and CPA for Arthur Anderson in New Orleans, and later for Kelly & Galloway in Ashland, KY. From 1981-1992, he and Carolyn owned and operated Marshall Brothers Supermarkets with his brother, T.N. Marshall. In 1992, he began a training program with McDonald’s which led him to purchase his first franchise in Kingwood, WV, which later grew into a group of restaurants in the Central Missouri region. He and his family moved to Sedalia in 1995.
Charles was a beloved philanthropist and supporter of the community. He was involved in State Fair Community College, Bothwell Regional Health Center Foundation, CASA, Boys and Girls Club, the Ronald McDonald House, and was a generous supporter of local schools.
Faith and family were his foundation. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He tried never to miss his grandchildren’s games or events and encouraged his family to attend church. His hobbies included fishing and hunting. He enjoyed fishing trips to Canada with his brothers and brother-in-law. He was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.
Charles will be remembered as a Godly, compassionate man who was a role model for many, especially his family.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Carolyn; two children, Stephani Marshall-Rice (Rusty), and Chuck Marshall (Angie); eight grandchildren, Seth (Reese), Dalton (Mackenzie), Haily, Chase, Noah, Carter, Connor, and Vince; two great-grandchildren, Baker Kaye and Shepherd Marshall; a brother, Frank Marshall (Susan); sister-in-law, Patty Marshall; three brothers-in-law, Laurice Brown, Johnny Brown, Gary Brown; sister-in-law, Judy Beckort; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, T.N. Marshall; and brother-in-law, Gordon Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Rehoboth Presbyterian Church in Laconia, IN, with the Rev. Gary Brown officiating.
Pallbearers will be Seth Fraley, Dalton Zaremba, Chase Marshall, Noah Marshall, Carter Rice, Connor Rice, and Vince Marshall.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Ronald McDonald House or the Parkinson’s Foundation, in care of Heckart Funeral Home, P.O. Box 434, Sedalia, MO 65302.
