In Loving Memory…
Charles Thomas Moore, 94, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at his home.
He was born June 21, 1919, in Sedalia, son of Vollie and Mary Agnes Johnston Moore. He graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in 1937. He worked at the Missouri Pacific Shops before joining the Navy on December 16, 1941. He earned the rank of Machinist Mate First Class, serving six years.
On November 8, 1943, in Sedalia, he married Clara May Gehlken, who survives of the home. Born to this union were three daughters, Mary Donna Ross, of Chesterfield, MO, Catherine L. Teter (Mark), of Smithton, and Denise R. Turner (Bill), of Sedalia. Also surviving are a step-sister, Bette Quigley, of Pompano Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Theron Teter, of Kirkwood, MO, Daman Ross, of Gardner, KS, and Marcie Teter, of Smithton; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son; a son-in-law, Earl Ross; and a brother, Lt. Robert K. Moore (killed in World War II).
He was a longtime member of Georgetown United Methodist Church, NARVRE, and VFW Post 2591. He enjoyed being with family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenny Cripe officiating.
Casket bearers will be Ernie Dow, John Drenon, Kenneth Combs, Herb Mittelhauser, Tom Miller and Pete Phillips.
Honorary bearers will be Graham Gaspard, Jeff Mittelhauser, Donald Lewis, Eric Walton, Ivan Stewart and Marshall Thomas.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, with military honors by the U.S. Navy and VFW Post 2591.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at Heckart Funeral Home.
