Charlotte Yount Cordry, 89, passed away on December 26, 2017 at EW Thompson Health and Rehabilitation Center.  She was born in Hannibal, Missouri on April 15, 1928 to Naomi Fielder Yount and Walter Kenneth Yount.  She graduated from Hannibal High School in 1946 and was valedictorian of her class.  She received an academic scholarship to Hannibal-La Grange University and graduated in 1948 with a degree in Elementary Education.

She taught elementary grades at Mark Twain School in Hannibal before marrying Kenneth Cordry in 1949 at First Christian Church in Hannibal, Mo.  Charlotte and Kenneth moved to St. Joseph where Charlotte taught Kindergarten at Lindbergh and Everett Schools.  They then moved to Columbia, Mo so both could attend the University of Missouri.

In 1951, they moved to Sedalia and Charlotte resumed teaching at the Children’s Therapy Center as Preschool Teacher and became interested in teaching children with disabilities.  She attended the University of Central Missouri and graduated cum laude in 1969 receiving a dual degree in speech-language pathology and elementary education.  She worked as a Speech-Language Pathologist for the Sedalia Public Schools from 1969 to 1993 and provided special education services for Sacred Heart, St. Paul’s Lutheran and Faith Christian students.

Charlotte was a member of Broadway Presbyterian church for many years and served as deacon.  She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, Alpha Delta Kappa, Missouri Retired Teachers Association and Sedalia Retired Teachers.  She is survived by her son and his wife, Kent and Shirley Cordry of Las Cruces, New Mexico; daughter Dr. Diane Cordry Golden of Grain Valley, Missouri; and grandsons Kyle Cordry of Columbus, Ohio and Eric Cordry of Albuquerque, New Mexico.  She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth E. Cordry.

Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will host a memorial reception January 13, 2018 from 2:30 – 4:30 p,m, at the Hotel Bothwell in Sedalia.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Charlotte Cordry Scholarship Fund for students with disabilities care of the Sedalia School District Foundation, PO Box 2505.  Arrangements are under the care of Heckart Funeral Home.
