In Loving Memory…

Clara Geneva Gottschalk, 93, of Sedalia, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2013, at Fair View Nursing Home.

She was born October 21, 1920, in Columbus, MO, daughter of Jesse Franklin and Clara Ellen Goodwin Rittman. On December 15, 1946, in Sedalia, she married Victor Lee Gottschalk, who preceded her in death on July 12, 1995.

Geneva was a 1938 graduate of La Monte High School and played softball. Before marriage, she worked for Swifts and Chasnoff’s Department Store. Then she became a farm wife. She loved helping her husband and the farmhands and would make sure they had everything they needed, whether it was lunch, snacks or supplies. She was a good cook and enjoyed gardening, sewing and knitting. She was also a 4-H leader and was involved in the Calf Club, which is where she met her husband. She was a member of the Dresden Homemakers and Dresden Mother’s Club.

Mrs. Gottschalk was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was active in the Willing Christian Workers class, the Women’s Circle, and taught Junior Sunday School for over twenty years.

Surviving are two daughters, Jeanne Curry, and her husband, Jim, of Sedalia, and Vickie Wilson, and her husband, Dale, of St. Charles; a grandson, Justin Curry; three great-granddaughters, Sophia, Mikayla and Kaylee.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Jim, Carmel, Ed and Fred Rittman; a sister, Doris Gottschalk; and three nephews, Fred Gottschalk, Nelson Painter and Tom Rittman.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Marlin Brown officiating.

Casket bearers will be C.J. New, Dale Howard, Cliff McBride, Dave Hagebusch and Jim Woodall.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Heckart Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to First Baptist Church.
