In Loving Memory…

Dannie Lee Ikerd, 75, of Sedalia, died Friday, August 23, 2013, at Fair View Nursing Home.

He was born February 4, 1938, in Caney, KS, son of Frank “Toad” and Marian Prall Ikerd.

In high school, Dannie was involved in football, basketball and track. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 to 1966, serving at Clark AFB, the Philippines and Vandenberg AFB.

He attended Coffeyville Community College, where he played basketball and ran track. He obtained his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Pitt State University.

He taught high school and coached basketball at Elk City and Tescott, KS. From 1972 to 2003, he worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation counselor in Sedalia.

He enjoyed bowling and bowled in leagues for over 50 years. He also enjoyed visiting Las Vegas.

He is survived by two sons, Frank Ikerd, and his wife, Valarie, of Loma Linda, MO, and Scott Ikerd, and his wife, Amy, of Raleigh, NC; five grandchildren, Brittney, Alec, Maxson, Kendall and Caden; his companion of 25 years, Sylvia Deitrick, of Sedalia; a sister, Dava Jo Angell, and her husband, Olin, of Destin, FL; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dan Hankins officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Heckart Funeral Home.

Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Caney Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney, KS.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Bothwell Hospice.
