David W. Schlomer

David William Schlomer, 73, of Houstonia, was gathered by the angels on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, while at Bothwell Regional Health Center.

He was born July 14, 1950, in Sedalia, son of William D. and Margaret (Gamache) Schlomer.

David was a 1968 graduate of Northwest High School and earned a degree in music education from Central Missouri State University. He later earned an MBA from University of Missouri-Kansas City.

He worked in the jewelry industry for many years and later became the director of the Good Samaritan Project in Kansas City.

He was assistant to the rector at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Mission, KS, and was serving Calvary Episcopal Church in Sedalia in that same role. He served both churches as an organist. David was also the choir director at Wesley United Methodist Church.

David served on the board of directors of the Sedalia Symphony Society. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, and loved dogs. He will be remembered as a caring man.

Survivors include a sister, Rebecca Barnes (Jeff), of Marshall; sister-in-law, Kim Schlomer, of Houstonia; nieces and nephews, Sam Barnes (Ashley), Dan Barnes (Angie), Tim Barnes (Lindsay), Allison Barnes, Maria Bradford (Domanick), Lorelei Cunningham (Trevor) and Jake Heishman (Ashley); eight great-nieces and nephews; and a beloved cousin, Patty O’Neil (Pat).

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Schlomer; and a nephew, Neil Schlomer.

Memorial service will be 10:30 am Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Calvary Episcopal Church, Sedalia with The Rev. Anne Meredith Kyle officiating.

Following the service, interment will be at Longwood Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, Calvary Episcopal Church, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Arrangements are in the care of Heckart Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the nurses in the critical care unit at BRHC and Dr. Dan Woolery for their compassion and kindness.
