Dean C. Morton, 94, formerly of Sedalia, passed away Monday, September 4, 2017, at the Benton House in Kansas City.
He was born July 21, 1923, in Pettis County, the son of John P. Morton and Beulah G. Latimer Morton.
Dean served honorably in the U.S. Army in World War II.
On June 1, 1947, in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to Betty J. Thomas, who preceded him in death on August 26, 2015.
Mr. Morton was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, taught Sunday School, worked in the nursing home ministry and helped start the bus ministry.
Dean was known for his humor and storytelling. He enjoyed gardening and harvesting walnuts. He always put others before himself.
He worked in construction most of his life.
Surviving are four children, Leslie Tucker (Robert), Jorja Krause (Tim), James Morton (Tahn), and Dan Morton (Theresa); twelve grandchildren, Jennifer Standeford, Adam Brownfield, Michael Brownfield, Theo Krause, Mae Krause, Steven Morton, Joshua Welch, Elizabeth Tucker, John Hono, James Hono, Alex Morton and Audrey Morton; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Don Morton; and two sisters, Nadine Durrill and Jerry Heap.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Bea Hono; three brothers, Porter Morton, Wayne Morton and Melvin Morton; and a sister, Shirley Wilson Finlay.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2017, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ed Underwood and the Rev. Robin Sandbothe officiating.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors by the U.S. Army and VFW Post 2591.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
