Donald K. Potter
Donald Kay Potter, 82, formerly of Sedalia, passed away Monday, June 12, 2017, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.
He was born June 27, 1934, in Sedalia, the son of Orson A. and Frances M. Shine Potter.
He was united in marriage to Patsy Caroline Young on July 3, 1956, in Sedalia.
Donald was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He graduated from the University of Missouri in 1957. Upon completion of his military service, he then served as a civilian electrical engineer, at Wright-Patterson AFB, for 38 years, retiring in 1993.
He was a Boy Scout leader, involved with JROTC and youth sports. He also served on the board for the Scott Joplin Festival.
In addition to his wife, Patsy, he is survived by six sons, Michael Bret Potter (Charlene), of Kettering , OH, Stanley B. Potter, of Boonville, Brian A. Potter, of Dayton, OH, Benjamin L. Potter (Annette), of Shawnee, KS, Scott P. Potter, of Bellbrook, OH, and Gregory S. Potter (Jennie), of Mesa, AZ; one daughter, Lisa K. Brown (Jeffery), of Columbia; two sisters Evelyn Weaver of Sedalia, and Betty Howard of Slidell, Louisiana; eighteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant sister, Maxine.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Highland Sacred Gardens.
Casket bearers will be the family.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, June, 16, 2017 at Heckart Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Scott Joplin International Ragtime Foundation.
