Dorothy Helen Chastain

Dorothy Helen Chastain, 89, of Lee’s Summit, formerly of Sedalia, passed away Monday, April 22, 2013, at Wilshire at Lakewood in Lee’s Summit.

She was born August 8, 1923, in Henry County, daughter of Robert Lee and Nancy Houk Parks. On August 15, 1941, in Sedalia, she married Kenneth L. Chastain, who preceded her in death on March 24, 1994.

Mrs. Chastain was a member of Birchwood Baptist Church and a former member of First Baptist Church in Sedalia. Her life was centered around her family.

Surviving are a son, Larry Chastain, and his wife, Suzanne, of Independence; a daughter, Peggy Chastain, of Independence; four grandchildren, Amy Anderson, Lance Wallace, Jay Chastain and Heather Gunn; a brother-in-law, Shelby Chastain; eight great-granddaughters; and a great-grandson.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 29, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeremy Shuler officiating.

Casket bearers will be Lance Wallace, David Anderson, Jay Chastain, Mike Smethers, Bob Parks and Jack Wymore.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at Heckart Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church Foundation.
