In Loving Memory
Dorothy Jean Grupe, 83, of Sedalia, formerly of Smithton, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Fair View Nursing Home.
She was born December 18, 1929, in Otterville, daughter of David Henry and Agnes Wells Meyer. On June 7, 1947, in Sedalia, she married Elroy Emil Grupe, who died March 20, 2005.
Dorothy was an Avon lady for many years and enjoyed visiting with her friends and customers. She was a farmer’s wife and enjoyed the farm lifestyle. She was a member of Smithton United Methodist Church, the Moose Lodge of Sedalia, and VFW Post 2591 Ladies Auxiliary. She liked playing bingo and was an avid gardener. She loved to sing and yodel and did so with her sister, Annie, in the Missouri-Pacific Buzz Sawyers in 1940.
She and Elroy loved to dance. She was a great pie maker and did lots of canning of vegetables and fruits. She was a loving parent and grandparent to her sons and grandsons and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing, baseball and basketball and attended her son’s games.
Surviving are two sons, David Grupe, and wife, Sharon, of Smithton, and Dan Grupe, of Sedalia; grandsons, Brad Grupe, and wife, Sarah, of Sedalia, and Aaron Grupe, and wife, Hillary, of Fenton, MO; two great-grandsons, Blake Grupe and Brett Grupe; two great-granddaughters, Lauren Grupe and Alexandra Grupe; a sister, Ann Schilb, and husband, Bill, of Sedalia; a brother-in-law, Melvin Ehlers, of Cole Camp; and two sisters-in-law, Eileen Rasa, of Florence, and Alice Grupe, of Sedalia.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Orva Rasa, Lawrence Grupe, Arthur Grupe; and sisters-in-law, Margaret Ehlers and Blanche Grupe.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Heckart Funeral Home, with Steve Schilb officiating.
Casket bearers will be Brad Grupe, Aaron Grupe, Blake Grupe, Brett Grupe, Greg Grupe, Ray Rasa and Roy Rasa.
Honorary bearers will be Kathleen Payne, Evelyn Templemeier, Beatrice Baughman, Tom and Rosalee Smith, Patty Wagenknecht, John Wagenknecht, Maureen Bluhm, Clyde and Beatrice Jobson, Betty Swift, and Cletus and Carol Tagtmeyer.
Burial will be in Smithton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Heckart Funeral Home.
