Dorothy Mae Franklin, age 100

of Sedalia, departed this life on Thursday, July 20, 2023, to begin her new life with the Lord. She lived at Sylvia Thompson’s from 2011 until the time of her death.
She was born February 19, 1923, in LaMonte, Missouri, to Roy Rue and Grace Mae Shelley.
Dorothy graduated from La Monte High School in 1941. On December 25, 1943, she married Amos E. Franklin, who preceded her in death on November 24, 1991.
Mrs. Franklin was a member of Parkview Christian Church since 1981. She was also a member of BFY (Be Forever Young) and served as secretary for several years.
Mrs. Franklin worked at Woolworths for 13 years, 1957-1969. She took care of the pets and home furnishings, and before they closed, she served food at the fountain, which she loved. She then worked at Fabricland for six years from 1970 to 1976 and then finally at Wal Mart for 2 years before retirement.
She is survived by a son, James E. Frankin & Suzanne, and a daughter, Carolyn Lee & Steven, 15 grandchildren: Amy Dutcher & Darin, Emily Goodman & Scott, Brian Lee & Christina, Kevin E. Lee, Jean Wahl-Bejarano, Mary Garcia-Berjarno & Frank, Shirley Serrano & Eliaquin, Mike Hern, Rusty McPherson & Larry, Floyd Hern & Maria, Katherine Hern, David Hern & Tina, Angela Hern, Tracy Diaz & Max, Daniel Jeremiah Hern, and over 65 great grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren. Plus many nieces and nephews.
Special thanks goes to the staff at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center for the excellent care given Dorothy for over 10 years, as well as the care provided by Hospice Care.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia R. Howard, a daughter & son-in-law, Betty and Dan Hern, and three grandchildren, Danny Hern, Melinda Hern Perez, John Hern.
Dorothy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.
Her hobbies included fishing, spending time with her grandchildren, listening to country music, and watching the K.C. Royals play baseball.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Heckart Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m.. A Christian burial will follow at Highland Sacred Gardens.
