Dorothy Marie Furnell, 82, of Sedalia, died Saturday, October 31, 2015, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.
She was born May 19, 1933, in Sedalia, daughter of August Joseph and Katherine Millian Whiteman Dick. She was a 1952 graduate of Sacred Heart High School.
On February 13, 1953, in Harrison, AR, she was united in marriage to Duane Franklin Furnell. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City temple in 1957.
Mrs. Furnell was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and Duane served as temple workers in the St. Louis temple, and she also held various other leadership positions in the church. When her children were young, she served in the PTA. She enjoyed square dancing, country music shows, traveling and keeping an immaculate home.
Survivors include five children, Dennis Furnell (Laurie), of Sedalia, Debbie Furnell, of Columbia, Donna Roever, of Sedalia, Doug Furnell (Kim), of Leawood, KS, and Darin Furnell (Jolyn), of West Jordan, UT; ten grandchildren, Shannon, Justin (Mitzi), Kelsey Struss (David), Natalie, Josh (Eva), Ben, Jacob, Erica, Emily and Rachel Furnell; six great-grandchildren, Maekayla, Khalid, Salihah, Ryker, L’ten and Lorelai; and a sister, JoAnna Dotson, of Kansas City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane, on February 21, 2013; her parents; sister, Genevieve Withers; and son-in-law, Charles Michael Roever.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 6, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Casket bearers will be Justin Furnell, Joshua Furnell, Benjamin Furnell, Jacob Furnell, David Furnell, Mike Dotson, David Withers and Paul Withers.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 5, at Heckart Funeral Home.
