Dr. Donald Eugene Hicks, 61, of Sedalia, passed away at his home on Thursday, June 8, 2017.

He was born on June 13, 1955, in Atlanta, GA, son of Robert Franklin Hicks and Mary Ellen (Rushing) Hicks.

Don graduated from the UMKC School of Dentistry in 1982 and practiced dentistry in Sedalia for over 30 years. He loved his patients dearly and that love was returned, cultivating many lasting friendships.

On June 23, 2014, Don was united in marriage to Cheryl Homan, in Coralville, IA.

Don was a devoted father, husband and son. He loved his family fiercely. He taught his daughters to water ski, snow ski, change tires and shoot. He loved to ride motorcycles, was determined to have the biggest and fastest Road King and was an active member of the Sedalia H.O.G. Chapter. Don enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, gardening, boating and camping. He had a heart for animals, especially his five dogs and several horses. Don will be remembered as compassionate and generous. Don never met a stranger.

Surviving are his wife, Cheryl Hicks, of the home; four children, Elizabeth Alford (Christopher), of Whitewater, WI, Kristina Drukker (John), of Holt, MO, Stephanie Remington, of St. John, Virgin Islands, and Christopher Homan (Diana), of Sedalia; his mother, Mary Hicks, of Kansas City, MO; ten grandchildren, Caitlin, Jackson, Drake, Keely, Cole, Chanceler, Mia, Caydance, Adrian and Christopher; four siblings, Sandra Temple, of Kansas City, MO, Michael Hicks, of Lake of the Ozarks, Kenneth Hicks, of Denver, CO, and Sharon Hicks, of Kansas City, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.

A Celebration of Life will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, at the First United Methodist Church Celebration Center, with the Rev. Jim Downing officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, at the church.

Honorary bearers will be Randy Martin, John Holcomb, Joe Bushyager and Joey Foschia.
