Dr. Leonard L. Shackles, born April 11, 1938 in Sedalia, died Sunday, September 19, 2021.
Dr. Shackles attended Whittier School and graduated from Smith Cotton High School in 1956. In 1957 he was baptized at the East Sedalia Baptist Church. On August 14, 1960, he married Anna Lee Skidmore. He attended CMSU Warrensburg and graduated from UMKC with honors in 1966. He became a member of OKU, an Honorary Dental Society and was awarded the Mosby Book Award. He practiced dentistry in 1966 with Dr. Richard Parks in Carthage and began his practice in Sedalia in 1967 residing and practicing dentistry the balance of his life. His hobbies were dentistry, family, motorcycling and woodcarving.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Anna Lee Shackles; his son, John Len Shackles; his father, Albert Shackles; his mother, Mildred Porter Shackles; and his stepfather, C.W. Gordy.
He is survived by his son, Kent Shackles, of Sedalia; a sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Bob Mullins, of Sedalia; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Mona Shackles, of Lee’s Summit; and his friend, Vera Fox.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 24, 2021 at Heckart Funeral Home with Rev. Jeremiah Greever officiating.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
