Dr. Robert C. Stockwood, 84, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at E.W. Thompson.
He was born on August 21
st
1934, in Kansas City, MO the son of Robert “Bud” and Lorayne M. Stockwood, who preceded him in death.
On February 7, 1954, in Columbia, MO. he was united in marriage to Jackie Stockwood, who also preceded him in death. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of Fairmont Christian Church.
Dr. Stockwood graduated from the University of Missouri – Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts and a Doctor of Medicine Degrees. He was a Member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Medical Society. He served in the US Army as a Senior Flight Surgeon for 7 years, attaining the rank of Major. He established his medical practice in Sedalia Missouri for over 42 years.
He was a Certified American Board of OB-GYN as well as a Fellow of the American College of OB-GYN and a Fellow of American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Stockwood was Chief of Staff at Bothwell Hospital for 6 years. He served on the Board of the Center for Human Services and started a Charity Golf Tournament for the Center which just completed its 47
th
year.
He is survived by his brother Randy of Arizona, his daughter Julie and husband George Coopersmith of Shawnee, KS, son Jim and wife Trudy of Lenexa, KS, and son Bob of DeSoto, KS. He is also survived by his grandchildren Christopher Stockwood and wife Kelsey, David Stockwood and wife Robin, both of whom are expecting Dr. Stockwood’s great grandchildren within the next few weeks, granddaughter Emily Stockwood of St. Louis and grandson Robby Stockwood, a Marine stationed in Spain.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2019, at Heckert Funeral Home with services to follow at 1 p.m. Graveside service will be at Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors provided by the VFW Post 2591 and the United States Army.
