Duane Franklin Furnell, 81, of Sedalia, died Thursday, February 21, 2013, at his home.
He was born February 21, 1932, in Mountain Grove, MO, son of David Sudworth Furnell Sr. and Grace Ellen (Dyer) Furnell. On February 13, 1953, in Harrison, AR, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Marie (Dick), who survives of the home. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City, UT temple in 1957. They celebrated their 60th anniversary last week.
Mr. Furnell was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served five years as branch president during the time the current building on Broadway was built. He was also a St. Louis temple worker and held various other leadership positions in the church.
He owned and operated Furnell Lumber Company and LTL Corporation. He enjoyed his friends in the cardiac rehab group at Bothwell Regional Health Center. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, trucks, antiques and raising cattle.
In addition to his wife, survivors include five children, Dennis Furnell (Laurie), of Sedalia, Debbie Furnell, of Columbia, Donna Roever, of Columbia, Doug Furnell (Kim), of Leawood, KS, and Darin Furnell (Jolyn), of West Jordan, UT; ten grandchildren, Shannon Walters, Justin (Mitzi), Kelsey, Natalie, Josh, Ben, Jacob, Erica, Emily and Rachel Furnell; and four great-grandchildren, Maekayla, Khalid, Salihah and Ryker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings, Bea Beard, David Furnell Jr. and Doyle Furnell; and a son-in-law, Michael Roever.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 25, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Casket bearers will be Justin Furnell, Josh Furnell, Ben Furnell, Jacob Furnell, Richard Beard, Brian Dotson, Clell Furnell and David Withers.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Heckart Funeral Home.
