Edwin L. Kirby, age 87, of Sedalia, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at his home.
He was born November 1, 1929, in Armstrong, MO, son of Melvin Lee and Julia Irene Brooks Kirby.
On November 25, 1950, in Moberly, MO, he was united in marriage to Geraldine Robb, who survives of the home.
Mr. Kirby was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He worked in insurance sales and for Orkin Pest Control. He enjoyed writing poetry, fishing, southern gospel and bluegrass music, and car racing.
In addition to his wife of 66 years, survivors include three children: Marilyn Bahner (Danny), of Sedalia, Randy Kirby (Lisa), of Sedalia, and Diana Waters (Roger), of Sedalia; four grandchildren, Brittany Bahner, Melody Friedly, Ryan McFall and Grant Waters; four great-grandchildren, Sid Fergason, Gunnar Friedly, Dawson Friedly and Parker Friedly; siblings, Judy Cone (Bill), of Arkansas, Rose Crutcher (David), of Moberly, and Martin Dean Kirby (Ginnie), of Armstrong; sister-in-law, Nancy Kirby, of Sedalia; nephew, Paul Kirby, of Sedalia; and many other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Jerry Kirby, David Kirby and Ruth Fridley.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 14, at First Baptist Church in Sedalia, with the Rev. Dr. Glenn Sparks officiating.
Casket bearers will be Warren Preuitt, Jim Privett, Steve Craighead, Bobbie Lee, Jack Allee and Gary Fleming.
Honorary bearers will be Deacons of First Baptist Church.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 13, at Heckart Funeral Home.
