Ellis W. Mallard
Ellis Warren Mallard passed on Sunday, November 26, 2017, at Research Medical Center, after complications resulting from a broken hip. He was ninety years old.
Ellis was born on September 9, 1927, in Charity, MO. His parents were George and Bessie Mallard. He was one of eleven children. He graduated from Charity High School. Ellis was in the Army from September 1946 until May 1947 and given an honorable discharge upon the end of the Korean War. He completed carpenter school in Warsaw, MO.
Ellis met and married his wife, Betty, in Buffalo, MO on June 12, 1947. They shared seventy years together. After marriage, Ellis and Betty moved to Kansas City, MO where he began working in the foundation business. Eventually he became a partner with Pat Lalla in the L&M Concrete Foundation Company, which moved Ellis and his family to Lanham, Maryland for six years. In 1972 Ellis, Betty, and the concrete company returned to Missouri where they located and built their current home in Sedalia, MO.
Ellis became a Christian at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and was baptized in the Greasy River as a young adult. He demonstrated his faith through obedience to God in actions rather than words. Ellis and Betty served and sought fellowship and friends through the church. Ellis has been both trustee and deacon at times in the churches they’ve belonged to over his lifetime. Attending church was not an option in his family and he taught his family that you can never out give God by obediently tithing and worshiping God everyday.
Ellis’ primary hobby was horses and trail and wagon rides. He enjoyed being outdoors and the friendships shared at various campsites during these activities. He also followed most every kind of sport on television, especially football, basketball, and baseball. Ellis loved nothing more than special times with his family and friends.
Ellis is survived by his wife Betty; children and their spouses, Ron and Judy Mallard, Christie and Rex Johnson, and Steve and Tracy Mallard; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one sister Avis and Bill Pinkley; brother-in-law, Jim and Verla Baker; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by nine siblings.
