Elsie Ann Simmons, 84, of Otterville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, July 16th.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2020, at Heckart Funeral Home. Burial will be held at New Lebanon Cemetery following the funeral service. Memorial contributions are suggested to New Lebanon Cemetery c/o Heckart Funeral Home.

Elsie was born September 27, 1935, to Ada Maude Cooper and Homer Lee Fairfax in Salisbury, Missouri. In 1954, in Salisbury, she married Donald Lee Simmons, who preceded her in death.

Elsie and her husband began their journey as a military family in Virginia during the Korean conflict, later she served as a pastor’s wife as she and her husband served many Methodist churches across Missouri. Elsie was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Women and for the past twenty years served on the Board of the Otterville Senior Center where she spearheaded efforts to send support boxes to deployed troops and provide food and supplies to those in need through the local food pantry.

While Elsie volunteered and gave generously of her time to countless charities, she remained a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her spirit and fierce love of family left an impression in the hearts of her loved ones that will last a lifetime.

Elsie is survived by three sons, Mark Simmons and his wife, Judy, of Otterville, Don Simmons and his wife, Sandra, of Robertsville, and Tim Simmons and his wife, Dana, of Dixon; one sister-in-law, Esther, of Richmond; seven granddaughters, Denise Cassidy and her husband, Dean, of Park Hills, Robin Treiber and her husband, Steve, of Eureka, Lindsey Simmons and her husband Chris of Hallsville, Marci Williams and her husband Jared of Syracuse, Amber Simmons of Lebanon, IL, Brandi Simmons of Dixon and Abrea Simmons of Dixon; four grandsons, Matthew Simmons of Otterville, Jeremy Simmons of Freeburg, Justin Simmons of Columbia and Evan Simmons of Dixon; 13 great-grandchildren, Austin and Brayden Treiber, Allison, Alaina, Justin, Trent and Tyler Cassidy, Ella, Clara, Jerra, and McKenna Williams, Raylynn Simmons and Jace Rosado.

Elsie was preceded in death by her daughter, Lori Ann Simmons in 1983; her husband in 2009; her parents; and one brother, Homer Fairfax Jr.
