Floyd Daniel Kerns, 88, of Sedalia, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
He was born December 26, 1928, in Sedalia, son of Daniel Kerns and Martha Faber Kerns.
On June 10, 1955, in Sedalia, he was married to Sandra Houston, who survives.
Floyd was a 1950 graduate of Smith Cotton High School. Mr. Kerns served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He served from 1951 to 1953 in the Infantry, earning the rank of Sergeant, and was awarded the Purple Heart.
He worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation for 27 years, retiring as foreman.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Sunrise Optimist Club. When his children were younger, he coached Little League. His hobby was woodworking. He enjoyed visiting with people, especially at Papa Jake’s and Hardees. He enjoyed breakfasts with fellow MODOT Retirees at North 65 Café.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, Sandra, survivors include three children, Dennis Kerns (Melodie), of Sedalia, Ann Dancer (Ray), of Savoy, TX, and Don Kerns (Mary), of Sedalia; six grandchildren, Justin, Tiffany, Bradly, Lora, Linda and Lisa; eleven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie Elliott, of Clarksburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Florence; brothers, Roy and Donald; and daughter-in-law, Carol Kerns.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, October 27, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Glenn Sparks officiating.
Casket bearers will be Dennis Kerns, Donald Kerns, Bradley Kerns, Ray Dancer, Herbert Houston, and Justin Dancer.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, with military honors by the U.S. Army and VFW Post 2591.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
