Franklin Conn Dowdy, 90, of Sedalia, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2016, at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.
He was born September 10, 1925, in Sedalia, son of Russell and Dorothea (Kaler) Dowdy. On August 28, 1998, in Eureka Springs, AR, he was married to Dessie Ann (Belsha) Schroeder, who survives of the home.
Frank worked for Sedalia Typewriter Company, selling and repairing adding machines and typewriters. He was a member of First Christian Church. He was a lifetime member of Sedalia Elks Lodge 125, where he held many offices and was the oldest living member until his death. He enjoyed garage sales, fishing and playing Rummy. He served in the Army during World War II.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Dr. Theresa Dowdy (Yves Hamard), and Paula Gaphart, both of Florida; a grandson, Russell Duncan, of Florida; a sister, Sally Svane, of Pennsylvania; a brother, Larry Dowdy, of New York; a stepdaughter, Sandy Jeffers, of Marshall; a stepson, Jim Schroeder, of Sedalia; a step grandson, Cory City; and two step-great-grandchildren, Sidnee and Huxlee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Dowdy; and a stepson-in-law, Chris Jeffers.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, at Crown Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Chad McMullin officiating. Elks Lodge 125 will perform rites and military honors will be presented by the U.S. Army and VFW Post 2591.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Elks National Foundation or First Christian Church.
