Fred Lara

Alfredo “Fred” Lara, 55, of Sedalia, lost his battle Thursday, September 22, 2016, at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia during extensive neurosurgery for a brain tumor.

He was born December 23, 1960, in El Paso, TX, son of Aurelio “Frank” Lara and Mary Pacheco Lara.

Fred worked as a diesel mechanic in El Paso for 18 years. He had worked several jobs here and most recently was a welder for Iron Tiger Manufacturing in Sedalia. He enjoyed fishing, camping, working on vehicles, watching movies, and barbecuing and drinking beer with his friends. He will be remembered as a generous, caring, comical and friendly guy who was always there for his family and friends. Even after a decade in Sedalia, he never forgot his family in Texas. Fred was larger than life and took comfort in his faith in God.

He will be sadly missed by his devoted fiancé of five and a half years, Lisa Knox, of the home; parents, Aurelio and Mary Lara; brother, Ruben his wife Genoveva Lara; sisters, Yolanda and her husband Alfredo Loya, Licha and her husband Ricky Duran, Virgie and her husband Chuy Cabrera, and Rebecca Lara; ten nieces and nephews, Ruben Jr., Celena, Freddy Jr., Jessica, Aaron, Arlene, Christine, Catherine, Raquel and Jesse; twenty-one great nieces and nephews; many cousins; and was loved by the Sanchez Family and many in Socorro, Texas, where he was also fondly remembered as “Sheriff Lobo.” He and Lisa loved being Daddy and Mama to their cats Gemini, Trinity and Crazy Fred. He will be remembered often and deeply missed.

Memorial services will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 2, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Peter Contreras and Ben Hopkins officiating.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until the 3:00 p.m. service.

Following the service, there will be a “Last Call” on Fred, beer and barbecue in the park at 1305 E. Boonville.

Arrangements are under the direction of Heckart Funeral Home. Condolences may be offered at www.heckartfuneralhome.com.
