Gary Lee Staton, 77, of Sedalia, passed away peacefully late Thursday, January 12, 2017, at his home.
He was born July 10, 1939, in Kansas City, MO, one of two children of Guy Strawbridge Staton and Florence Foltz Staton, who preceded him in death.
On November 26, 1960, in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Estill.
Gary spent his life serving the country first in the U.S. Navy Reserve, and then in the U.S. Air Force, retiring after 21 years. He served in the Vietnam War and reached the rank of Master Sergeant E-7. After retiring from the military he worked at Yeager’s Cycle Sales in Sedalia, MO.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Gary is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley; two daughters, Sherri Felder, of Brighton, TN, and Stacy Stafford, of Albers, IL; four grandchildren, Michelle Staton, Justin Stafford (Becky), Amy Stafford and Katherine Staton; two great-grandchildren, Jordyn and Lucas; and a sister, Carol Greenfield (Hugh), of Topeka, KS.
Mass of Christian Burial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, at Sacred Heart Church, with Fr. Mark Miller officiating.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Burial will be at 12:00 noon Wednesday, January 18, at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, with full military honors by the U.S. Air Force.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Sacred Heart Church.
