Georgia Jane Young Mais, 90, of Leawood, KS, formerly of Sedalia, passed away Monday, September 28, 2015, at Sharon Lane Health Services in Shawnee.
She was born February 2, 1925, in Sedalia, daughter of James Herbert and Fern A. Hutsler Young.
On August 1, 1946, she was united in marriage to John Jr. Mais, who preceded her in death on October 1, 1973.
At the age of ten, she was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sedalia, the Gleaner’s Sunday school class and the Prime Time Singers. She worked in bible school, taught a class for special children, on the benevolence committee and worked in the nursery for fifteen years.
She worked as a bookkeeper for the Thrifty Dress Shop and Sinclair Oil Company, then as a stock record clerk at the old Sedalia Airbase until its closing. Before retiring she provided childcare in her home for 28 years.
Georgia loved the outdoors, watching birds, rabbits and squirrels in the spring, gardening, traveling and listening to Bill Gaither and Anthony Berger music. Spending time with family, especially her grandsons, whom she loved dearly, brought her the greatest joy.
She is survived by a daughter, Pamela Jane Mais, of the home; a son, John Mais and wife Michelle, of Leawood, KS; four beautiful grandsons, John (Matthew), Brandon, Joshua and Timothy, of Leawood, KS; two sisters, Betty Miley and Laura Hoppes, of Sedalia; and three brothers, Herbert W. Young, of Overland, MO, and D. Clay Young and Stanley Young, of Sedalia.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a younger brother, Donald Paul, who passed at the age of two.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 1, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Marlin Brown officiating.
Pallbearers will be John (Matthew) Mais, Brandon Mais, Joshua Mais, Timothy Mais, Steve Young and Dennis Young. Honorary bearers will be Darrin Young and Tom Mais.
Burial will be in Highland Sacred Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, at Heckart Funeral Home.
