Gerald Lee Dillon, 92, of Sedalia, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
He was born on February 4, 1925, in La Monte, the son of Clyde Okie and Erma Mae Wharton Dillon.
On June 14, 1952, in Arkansas, he was united in marriage to Evelyn June Dotson.
Gerald served honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII and then worked at General Motors in Kansas City for 30 years prior to retiring.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Gerald was an avid gardener. He and Evelyn were known for the fresh produce they sold. He also enjoyed woodworking, building swings, bird houses and bird feeders. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; spending time with them was his greatest joy.
In addition to his wife of 65 years, Evelyn, he is survived by three children, Gerald E. Dillon, of Escondido, CA, Aleta J. Fairbanks (Michael), of Kansas City, and Debra L. Fischer (Steven), of Stover; three grandchildren, Gerrit T. Fischer (Sarah), Grant E. Fischer (Amanda) and Debra Scholler (Derek); and three great-grandchildren, Maxwell R. Fischer, Cambria Scholler and Mathis Scholler.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Donald and Henry “Jake” Dillon; and three sisters, Eulalia Yankee, Grace McCorkle and Georgetta White.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 1, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sedalia, with the Rev. Jeremy Freeman officiating.
Casket bearers will be David White, Gaylon McCorkle, Randy Dillon, Phillip White, Steve Dillon and Jim Tyler.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Thursday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Burial will be in La Monte Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
