Harry Eugene Baker, 95, of Houstonia, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2020 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg.
Born August 13, 1924 in Gardenia, CA, he was one of four children of Milo Thomas and Ida Mae (Motts) Baker.
Harry grew up in Collins, MO. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II.
On September 28, 1947 in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to Etta Fern Page. This union was blessed with one daughter. Together they enjoyed 62 years before Fern passed away September 2, 2010.
In his younger years, he was a farmer and had a filling station in Houstonia. He later worked for Panhandle Eastern for 20 years, retiring in 1981.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, tinkering, penny ante poker and spoiling his grandkids. He was always up for a bargain and a good joke.
Harry was a member of Houstonia United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Peggy Lea Nelson (David) of Blackburn; two grandchildren, Steven Nelson (Rebecca) of Blackburn, and Christina Mackesty (Douglas) of Grain Valley; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Dawson and Lulubelle Underwood, both of Houstonia.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Baker.
A private funeral service will be held at Heckart Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Houstonia Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Veterans Assistance League, in care of the funeral home.
