Anna Helen Barber, 98, of Sedalia, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017, at Good Samaritan Care Center in Cole Camp.
She was born September 30, 1918, near Florence, MO, daughter of Thomas M. and Delilah Carver Maness.
On September 9, 1942, in Sedalia, she was married to Bennie L. Barber, who passed away August 25, 2008.
During World War II, she traveled through several states with Bennie while he was in training as a glider pilot.
After he was sent to Europe she returned to Sedalia where their first son was born July 23, 1944.
At the end of the war, they lived in Sedalia and their second son was born July 5, 1946.
In 1948, she moved with her family to Pennsylvania where Bennie worked for General Electric in Erie. In 1955 they returned to Sedalia.
Places of employment were a helper at Rose Mary Beauty Shop, Pucketts Café, J.C. Penney’s, and F.W. Woolworth, from where she retired as a sales lady and window decorator after 14 years.
She worked several years at the polls on election day.
She enjoyed growing flowers, hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, Nascar racing, and being with her family.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Bennie L. Barber, Jr., of Russellville; and a grandson, Terry Alan Barber, of San Jose, CA.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Danny W. Barber; daughter-in-law, Dixie Lee Barber; three sisters, Dimple Combs, Verna Kruse and Erma Weems; and two brothers, Cleo Maness and Clifford Maness.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 13, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Chaplain Bill Douglas officiating.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
