Helen Frances Mahnken, 74, died August 29th, 2021 after a long struggle with a degenerative neurological condition, with her family by her side in Springfield, MO.
She was born July 30, 1947, in Sedalia, MO to Melvin and Ruth Hampy.
She graduated from Smithton High School in 1965. She was united in marriage to Eugene Mahnken on June 5
th
, 1965. This union lasted 51 years until Eugene’s passing and resulted in 3 sons;
Kevin Mahnken of Otterville, MO, Brian Mahnken of Ozark, MO and Derek Mahnken of Republic, MO.
Helen worked for many years as the school secretary at Smithton elementary school. In this role, she interacted with almost every family in the community. Helen concluded her working life with many years of service in the purchasing department at Duke Mfg.
Helen’s primary interest was her family. She devoted much of her time and energy to ensuring the development and well-being of her sons and grandchildren.
Though Helen’s health was failing for years, few people knew the extent to which she struggled. Her stubborn love and undying care for her family endured to her final day.
She is survived by her sister, Shirley Oelrichs; brothers, Billly Hampy and Ken Hampy; 3 sons and their spouses, Kevin and Barbara Mahnken, Brian and DeAnna Mahnken and Derek and JoAnna Mahnken; and 3 grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 4
th
at 1:00 P.M. at Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia, MO followed by a 2:00 funeral service.
Memorials are suggested to National Ataxia Foundation or Florence United Methodist Church.
