Helen Joyce Umbles Hill, 78, of Sedalia, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2016, at Landmark Hospital in Columbia.
She was born December 22, 1937, in Sedalia, daughter of Wendell Ulysses Umbles and Charlene Virginia Cline.
Helen was a member of Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church.
She enjoyed cooking, reading and watching soap operas. Helen’s home was a safe place for many people; she would never turn away anyone who needed a hand up. She babysat many children over the years. Helen loved her family and enjoyed talking about them.
She is survived by twelve children: Kenny of Tampa, FL, Daryl (Cynthia) of Columbia, Sharon of Sedalia, Reginald of St. Louis, Byron of San Diego, CA, Rima (Howard) of Sedalia, Vincent “Casey” of Sedalia, Garlen Scott (Lee) of Stockton, CA, Verhonda (Chris) of Jefferson City, Tamara of Sedalia, Candace (Traves) of Sedalia, and Nicole of Jena, LA; 29 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; three siblings, Tom (Phyllis) of Sedalia, Scharlett of Columbia, and Gary (Carolyn) of Sedalia; Debbie Webb who was like a daughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elziah and Charlene Cline; husband, Sherman Buckner Sr.; son, Marlon; and brother, Elziah Jr.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 10, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Pastor Mike Jackmon officiating.
Pallbearers will be LaVar Umbles, Tremayne Umbles, Rashawn Umbles, Trevin Umbles, Christopher Umbles, Myreon Briscoe, Kelcey Williams and Chayne Umbles.
Honorary bearers will be Lawanda Rice, Betty Jones, Debbie Newbill, Brenda Scroggins, Beverly Clark and Bessie Clay.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time Saturday at Heckart Funeral Home.
