Howard Gene Mettenburg, 76, of Otterville, died Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at his home.
He was born January 8, 1942, in Pettis County, son of John R. and Marguarite (Jackel) Mettenburg.
On March 6, 1964, in Sedalia, he was married to Daisy Anne (Corson), who preceded him in death on October 26, 2009.
Howard served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a machine operator at Alcan Cable for 26 years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing cards and visiting with his friends at the Otterville and Smithton Senior Centers. Howard will be remembered as an easy going guy who was dedicated to his family.
Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Holman and her husband, Bill, of Otterville; daughter-in-law, Christina Mettenburg, of Jamestown; six grandchildren, Brooke Holman, Tommy Holman, Kimmy Holman, Rachelle Mettenburg, Nathan Mettenburg and Audrey Mettenburg; two great-granddaughters, Emma and Olivia; two brothers, Alfred Mettenburg and Harold Mettenburg (his twin); and a sister, Maggie Hoehns.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Mettenburg and Nick Mettenburg; and two sisters, Mary Mueller and Shirley Taylor.
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 noon Monday, September 3, at Hughesville High Point Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army and VFW Post 2591.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Monday at Heckart Funeral Home.
