Howard Leon Pilant, 76, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
He was born the son of Fred and Eva Pilant on August 4, 1937, in Cassville, MO.
In 1955 he was married to Jane Higgs, of Exeter, MO, and had three children. He later divorced and moved to Sedalia. He was remarried to Dianne Draisey in 1971 and had two children.
Howard enjoyed working on old cars, listening to country music, raising cows, rehabbing houses, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He owned and/or operated many businesses throughout the years including Stinger Sam’s Auto Parts, Pilant’s Used Cars, State Fair Quick Lube, Downtown Laundromat, and Downtown Furniture & More Store.
Howard was preceded in death by his daughter from his first marriage, Sherry Pilant Byrd; and his brother, Lenard Pilant.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dianne Pilant, and their children, Alicia Morlan, and husband, William, and Aaron Pilant; children from his first marriage, Gary Pilant and Gale Pilant; brother, Carroll Pilant, and wife, Lisa; two sisters, Wilma Miller, and husband, Hal, Loretta Vincent, and husband, Bill; sister-in-law, Sara Pilant; and daughter-in-law, Janet Dillon. He also has seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was well loved and will be sorely missed!
Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 8, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Gail Lilleman officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family.
