With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Independencia Guzman Dalumpines, 87, of Warrensburg, Missouri. Independencia, known to her loved ones as Pendy or Pending, peacefully joined our Lord God on August 22, 2024, after living a long and fulfilling life.
Born on February 6, 1937, in Tuguegarao, Cagayan, Philippines, Independencia was the cherished daughter of Regalado Guzman and Margarita Taguba. She was one of six siblings; her brother William and sister Filipinas will continue to carry on her enduring spirit.
In 1958, Independencia married her beloved Telesforo. Their 43 years of marriage were blessed with the joy of raising seven children: Maria Zita, Maria Teodora, Maria Bernadette, Don Thomas, Don Paul, Francesca Nina, and Marc Angelo.
Independencia dedicated her life to nurturing young minds, serving as a devoted working mother, a school teacher, a college instructor, and a private tutor. Her home was always open to relatives and friends in the Philippines, and her aunt Leonore held a special place in her nuclear family. Independencia's life was a testament to resilience and hope, as she lived through significant historical events such as World War II while never losing sight of her vision for a brighter future for her family. In 1987, she immigrated to the United States, where she worked as a food service manager in Chicago, IL until her retirement in 2005. Her golden years were spent with her daughter, Bernadette, her son-in-law, Francisco, and her granddaughter, Erika, in Sedalia and Warrensburg, Missouri.
Independencia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Telesforo, and her daughter Zita.
She is survived by her six children, ten grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Independencia's legacy lives on through the lives she touched, the love she shared, and the care she provided. She loved to say proverbs to comfort others, like “Forgive and forget,” “Laughter is the best medicine,” “It is better to give than to receive,” “If they can do it, you can too,” “Try and try until you die,” and “If there’s a will, there’s a way.” Such sayings teach us to cope, heal, be kind and generous, and live a fulfilling life. While we mourn the loss of such a beautiful soul, we find solace in the knowledge that she now rests in God's embrace, surrounded by her loved ones in Heaven.
Visitation will be held at Heckart Funeral Home, 903 S. Ohio Ave., Sedalia, Missouri, from August 23rd through August 26th. The burial is scheduled to take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery on August 28th at 1:00 p.m.
