Ira Leroy “Bill” Paxton, 91, of Sedalia, died Monday, February 12, 2018, at Harry S Truman VA Hospital in Columbia.
He was born January 19, 1927, in Pettis County, the son of William and Clementine (Henderson) Paxton.
He was married to Cloetta Mae (Webb) who preceded him in death.
Ira served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the VFW.
Ira worked as a heavy equipment operator, including for Shamrock Construction and for the Corps of Engineers building the Truman Dam.
He enjoyed yard work, fishing and hunting. He will be remembered as a hardworking, honest and reliable man.
Surviving are three sons, Daniel Wayne Paxton, of Sedalia, Thomas Allen Paxton, of Las Vegas, NV, and John Cecil Paxton, of Sedalia; seven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Clayton Paxton; two brothers and four sisters.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon Saturday, February 24, at Salvation Army, 50 Highway and Engineer in Sedalia.
Contributions are suggested to Salvation Army, Open Door Food Pantry.
Cremation arrangements are in the care of Heckart Funeral Home.
