Irene Catherine (Waier) French, 87, of Raymore, died Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at her home.
She was born May 13, 1926, in Omaha, NE, daughter of Catherine and Frank Waier, who preceded her in death. On September 10, 1946, in Horton, KS, she married Robert Dale French, who preceded her in death on October 15, 1994.
Irene graduated from South High in Omaha in 1944. She worked at Northwestern Bell. She and her husband moved to Huron, SD, where he worked on the Northern Pacific Railroad. They then moved to Kansas City. She retired from Marion Labs, and they moved to Cole Camp and had a dairy farm there for 18 years. She was president and vice president of the Ladies Altar Society at St. Peter and Paul Church in Cole Camp. She was president of the Homemakers Extension Club. After retiring from dairying, they moved to Sedalia, where Irene worked for Bothwell Hospice for two years and was volunteer of the year in 1996. She also worked with the hospital auxiliary. She moved to Raymore and taught “55 Drive Alive” for AARP for four years.
Surviving are four children: Larry Dale French, of Kansas City, Judith Caldwell, of Lawrence, KS, JoAnn Spalding, of Lee’s Summit, and Jeanne Hendricks, of Blue Springs; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rosemary Ishii, of Florence, OR.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 6, at Highland Sacred Gardens, with Fr. Jim Betzen, C.PP.S. officiating.
